CAT CONDOS
CAT CONDOS are
air conditioned/heated and offer our feline guests a quiet, sunny, spacious
place to relax far away from "talkative" dogs. Each condo offers a resting
shelf and an east window along with a fleece bed.
Our Pet Resort
Caretakers visit each cat three or more times a day and attend to
their litter box, food and water. Our cat playroom provides extra space to
explore the aquarium and climbing tree. It also features a view of the
Cat
Hospital lobby. We do ask that feline playroom visitors be tested negative for
feline leukemia.
Playtimes may be arranged for your pet during their
stay. Your pet will enjoy 20-30 minutes of quality one-on-one time with a
member of our staff. Playtimes may be spent playing fetch in the yard, cuddling
in your pet's room, or enjoying a leisurely walk on our trail. To schedule this additional playtime feature,
just let our Pet Resort Customer Service Representative know that you would like
it included. There is a $7.00 per day fee for this additional service.
WHAT TO BRING?
We provide lots of toys, a special comfy bed or
fleece bedding for your pet. Please do not bring any items from home, as
we have everything your pet will need for pampering and comfort here.
SPECIAL DIETS
Special diets
are welcome. We offer Iams Minichunks, Purina EN, Science Diet Adult Maintenance and Eukanuba Low Residue dry foods,
or you are welcome to bring your pet's food from
home.
Keep in mind a change in diet can cause stomach upset during your pet's
stay. If you are bringing food, please bring it in a
sealed, waterproof contained (no glass, please). Make sure the food is clearly
marked with your pet's name as well as your name and the quantity to be fed.
MEDICATIONS
Medications will be given to your pet according
to the instructions you leave at check-in. A nominal medication charge
will be added to your bill. Other special medication needs are met
whenever possible including insulin injections, medicated baths and topical
medications. Please call the Pet Resort staff in advance to discuss what medications you will
be bringing and what charges will be incurred.
WELLNESS
REQUIREMENTS
Upon check-in, a
courtesy health screen is performed on each guest by a member of our hospital's
staff. To protect the health of our guests, we do require that pets be current
on vaccinations and free of internal and external parasites. Dogs must have
the DA2PL-Parvo and Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccines annually and
Rabies every two years. Cats require an FVRCP and Rabies vaccine each year.
In
addition, we require all dogs and cats to have a current stool sample (fecal
test). For dogs that would be every
6 months and for cats that would be once a
year. This will help ensure that they are free of internal parasites.
VACCINATION HISTORY
Please provide
us with a copy of your pet's vaccination history or have your veterinarian fax
your pet's history to us at 515-645-2456. If your pet is cared for by
a veterinarian outside of Avondale Veterinary Healthcare Complex in Des Moines,
then you will need
to provide us with a copy of your pet's vaccination history or have your
veterinarian fax your pet's history to us at 515-645-2456.
Should any vaccines be due, they will be administered following the health
screening by one of our veterinarians and your bill will be adjusted accordingly.
Should a diagnostic examination, or an examination for a specific problem, be requested by the
owner, a veterinarian examination fee will be added to the account.
PLAN AHEAD TO BOARD
YOUR PET
Be honest about any known medical condition your
pet may have. The staff will be better able to recognize problems with a
particular condition if they know what to look for. Special care may need to be
taken when handling or feeding your pet as well, so in order to better care for
your pet be sure to let us know about any special problems your pet may have.
Bring all medications your pet may need during the stay. Be sure they are
labeled appropriately with the name of the medication, the pet's name, the
owner's name and dispensing instructions. If your dog or cat is on several
medications or a complicated dosage schedule, a small chart or calendar showing
the medication(s) schedule will help our staff to keep the treatments on time.
It is important that your pet's vaccinations are all up to date during their
stay. It is always a good idea to have a senior blood work panel done once a
year on any pet that is 7 years of age or older. This will help identify any
potential health problems and early detection will aid your pet in living a
longer life.
Be
sure to leave an emergency number where you can be reached. If a problem arises
during your pet's stay, staff members must be able to reach you or make a
decision based on your requests. If we need to seek veterinary care for your
pet, be aware that you, as the owner, will be financially responsible for your
pet's medical treatment.
