Dennis D. Woodruff, DVM, CCRT / Owner Avondale Veterinary Healthcare Complex Dr. Woodruff graduated from Iowa State University College of Medicine in 1974 and has a special interest in orthopedics.  Dr. Woodruff performs ruptured anterior cruciate ligament repairs (RACL), triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO), and hemilaminectomy surgeries as well as complicated fracture repairs, bone biopsies, amputations and soft tissue surgery, including entropion repair, eye enucleations, gastrotomies, hernia repairs, exploratory surgeries, and soft palate surgeries.  Dr. Woodruff believes in the value of continuing education for his staff and promotes attendance at leading conferences and participating in professional as well as community organizations.  He has been active in and held leadership positions in the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, the Greater Des Moines Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, American Association of Feline Practitioners. and Iowa State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital Liaison Committee.  He has also contributed to his community by serving as a City Council Member and Mayor of Carlisle, Iowa.  He has also enjoyed serving on the YMCA Board of Directors and the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce as well as coaching numerous little league sports teams.  Most recently, Dr. Woodruff has become a member of American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians.
Christopher Groos, DVM Dr. Groos joined the Avondale Veterinary Healthcare Complex team in July of 2004.  He is a graduate of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has a special interest in feline and canine dentistry.  He also sees general medicine cases and enjoys surgery.  Dr. Groos has studied international public health and has pursued additional education not only in dentistry, but ophthalmology and dermatology as well.  He actively participates in the American Veterinary Medical Association, and is a former board member for the Angel's Wish Animal Rescue Organization.  He enjoys spending his free time with his wife, Jen, daughter, Hannah, and son, Henry.
Christie Carlo, DVM, CCRT Dr. Carlo is a graduate of Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996.  She received her certification as a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist by the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in October 2010.  Dr. Carlo is a member of the Greater Des Moines Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, American Association of Feline Practitioners, Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.  In addition to general veterinary medicine, Dr. Carlo enjoys all phases of canine and feline rehabilitation medicine including massage therapy, underwater treadmill therapy, stem cell therapy and laser pain therapy.  She and her husband, Tim, have two children, John and Emily.  In Dr. Carlo's free time, she spends time quilting, cooking, reading, walking, bike riding, traveling and Tae Kwon Do.  Dr. Carlo is now a member and also Secretary of the American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians
Mandy Hollander, DVM Dr. Mandy Hollander graduated from Iowa State University College of Medicine in 2000, and has been an associate veterinarian at Avondale Veterinary Healthcare Complex since then. Dr. Hollander has special interests in canine and feline internal medicine, oncology and ultrasonography.  She is a member of many professional organizations including Greater Des Moines Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, and American Association of Feline Practitioners.  Dr. Hollander enjoys spending time with her husband, Marc, and their children, Madeline and Malcolm.  Her family also includes a Schnauzer, "Annie" and 2 cats, "Foster" and "Winston".
Lisa King, DVM, CVA, CAC Dr. Lisa King was born in west central Iowa and grew up on the family farm.  She participated in livestock production on the farm and had her own small flock of sheep growing up.   Lisa earned her bachelor degree at Iowa State University in Animal Science through the Biotechnology program.  She completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 at ISU.  In 2008, Lisa started her acupuncture training with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and was certified in 2010.  In 2011, Lisa completed her chiropractic training and was certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association in animal chiropractic.  She is a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture, American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. In her spare time, Lisa trail rides and events her horses and raises Dorset sheep.  She has also participated in a wide variety of events with her Australian Shepherds.  She has titled her dogs in AKC obedience (including a Utility Dog) & agility (through the open level).  She has dabbled in AKC Rally & Tracking.  Lisa also participates extensively in herding and has an ASCA Working Trial Champion (WTCH). Amy Williamson, DVM Dr. Williamson graduated from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She has special interests in preventative care, dermatology, and canine and feline internal medicine. Growing up in Minnesota, Dr. Williamson always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian, and she enjoys being able to make a difference in the lives of people and their pets. Dr. Williamson is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. She has  2 cats, "Chewy" and "Ninja". Outside of work, Dr. Williamson enjoys spending time outside, traveling, and cheering on the Cyclones in football and basketball.

Gabriela Malakates, DVM Dr. Malakates was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She graduated from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and joined the doctors at Avondale the summer of 2017. Dr. Malakates has special interests in preventative care, canine and feline internal medicine, and diagnostic imaging. She will also see small mammals and reptiles for general health concerns. Dr. Malakates spends her free time cooking new recipes, playing board games, trying new local restaurants, and exploring all that Des Moines has to offer.  She has two fur children: an orange tabby named Marty McFly, and a Boxer mix named Hashbrown.
